Have you heard about #WordsUnspoken
About the initiator
Graham Garrick, the initiator, is a spoken word artiste and is regarded as one of the most promising young poets in the southern part of Nigeria. He is currently in his 4th year in the University of Benin studying Law as his first degree. Graham Garrick is a voice of his generation and has been recognised as such in the realm of spoken word for his works such as; "If I were him", "He understands", "My first love ", "life on the edge", "Assumption" and the very popular "Abike" to mention but a few. The striking difference that pulled Graham Garrick into the limelight is his commitment to the advancement of the gospel as the words he speaks all point to the gospel of grace directed majorly to the youths.
He holds the view that the;
"baton of life will one day be passed onto the youths and as such we need to be prepared in every way and this can only be done by us possessing a new thinking pattern"
About Words unspoken
Words Unspoken, fundamentally, is a spoken words poetry concert initiated by Graham Garrick. It is a concert geared towards the propagation of the gospel and creation of impact In the society through the art of words. Words Unspoken 2015 is the maiden edition of this event as it is intended not to be a one time event. In as much as spoken word is the focal point or medium through which the gospel is propagated, this would be done in conjunction with other arts. We would also showcase dance, music and arts. This year the team of Words Unspoken intends not only to add value to our society through art but also to add substance and hope. While the former is to be done through ministration on stage, the latter is to be done by us raising funds for a selected charity. We intend to use the concert to raise substance no matter how little for the less privileged.

Hostel update ; only 100l application is on, old students still to begin after senate meeting...
UNIBEN HOSTEL UPDATE: Due to misinformation from stanbic IBTC bank who were actually collecting payments for access fee and SUG dues from returning students contrary to the information given yesterday, thus a circular was passed to intimate us of the development.
Meanwhile we were required to quickly verify the information received from the bank.
NOTE: Information passed yesterday remains true as the bank acted in error and publicized same. Currently directive still remains that only year one students who have completed their clearance and has paid school fees are to apply.
For returning students, hostel application will commence once Senate has sat and uploaded 2013/2014 sessional result Which will pave way for payment of school fees and hostel application to enable allocation of spaces.
In order to come to a compromise since there will be no temporary accommodation, the proposed calendar stating 17th Jan, 2015 as resumption date may be adjusted which may mean postponement of resumption to allow room for certain adjustments. Senate meeting should last till mid next week. Therefore students are advised to stay put and don't risk the dangers of the highway till they are sufficiently informed.
Please disregard any other circular stating otherwise.
We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Its never to happen again as proper directives have been given. Please bear with us.
We are on ground to assist and make this year's accommodation procedures as stress free as possible and we promise to report to you as much as is within our power.

TEAM UNIBEN wins International award for vehicle innovation
Students of Faculty of Engineering, University of Benin, called Team UNIBEN, broke grounds in an international competition - Shell Eco Marathon in Europe and South Africa in Oct. 2014 and won a distinguishing award for 'most innovative vehicle design' throughout Africa with its made in Nigeria car called Ecocruise. Continue...
Shell Eco Marathon is a global competition that challanges students to build, test and drive fuel efficient vehicles. In other words, all the cars built are set to race and the vehicle that goes the farthest on the least amount of fuel automatically wins.
Team UNIBEN has previously also broken a record when they attended the Shell eco-marathon Europe in may 2014 with its first made in Nigeria car Tuketuke, making it the first team from Sub Saharan Africa to participate in the Shell eco-marathon. These two cars were handmade by these students alone in the workshop.
Tuketuke has innovative features like automatic windscreen wiper, button actuated gears, fingerprint access, ankara interior and fibreglass body. Both cars won all 10 technical and safety inspections, which I might add, are world standard, that qualified them to race on the track.
They are currently taking yet another challenge to build two cars that will participate in another shell eco-marathon in the Netherlands next year.
Students involved include: Osas Omijie, Festus ibidapo, adekola adeyemi, abdulmalik tajliad, Daniel okwoka, justice Oyemike, emmanuel Ajari, eloghosa iyamu, James itoro, Jennifer orji, Anne monye, Michael olukoya, and Victor adegboye, 13 students in total supervised by Professor Akii Ibhadode (Winner, NLNG Award for Science, 2010).

EFCC arraigns UNIBEN Undergraduate over $12,000 Internet scam
Find the EFCC press statement below...
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, October 30, 2014 arraigned an undergraduate of the University of Benin, Kenneth Rukewe Ebule before Justice E. F Ikponmwen of an Edo State High Court, sitting in Benin- City on a 6- count charge bordering on forgery, obtaining money by false pretence and possession of fraudulent documents. The accused person allegedly duped Sabine Albert, a German, of the sum of $12, 088, 75 through fraudulent claims.Rukewe, 30, a final year student of Computer and Statistics at the University of Benin, was arrested by officials of a new generation bank on May 28, 2014 in Benin City and handed over to the EFCC for further investigation.
Troubles started for him when Albert alleged that within two months after he had internet contact with him, Rukewe fraudulently obtained the sum of $12,088,75 (Twelve Thousand Eighty Eight Dollars and Seventy Five Cents) from him.
Rukewe allegedly posed to Albert as an English businessman on transit in Nigeria. He gave his name as Bob Albert and told his victim that he had a contract with a Nigerian company worth €1.200, 000.00 and that he needed a loan to facilitate a transaction with the company. He promised to pay back the loan and even doubled it because he was sure of pulling through the transactions. He also told Albert that he had complications and suffered a robbery attack.
Rukewe also falsely told Albert that, a levy of of N1,975,861 (One Million, Nine Hundred and Seventy Five Thousand, Eight Hundred and Sixty One Naira only) was imposed on him by the Federal Inland Revenue Service for the release of his International Passport, and a cheque worth 1, 200,000 Euros. He also pleaded for a flight ticket to London.
Based on all these, Albert offered to loan him the money by sending it through Western Union, only to discover that he had been scammed.
Investigation also revealed that the suspect had defrauded other German nationals to the tune of $110,975.00USD (One Hundred and Ten thousand, Nine Hundred and Seventy Five United States Dollars) between May 2013 and January 2014.
When the charges were read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.
One of the charges read in part:
"Ebule Kenneth Rukewe (a.k.a. Bob Albert), on or about the 17th day of July, 2013 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with Intent to defraud, obtained the sum of $12,088,75 (Twelve Thousand Eighty Eight Dollars and Seventy Five Cents) from Sabine Albert (a German National), under the false pretence that the money represented part payment of N1,975,861 (One Million Nine Hundred and Seventy Kobo) levy imposed one Bobby Albert (a British citizen) by Federal Inland Revenue Service for the release of the International Passport, Cheque worth 1,200,000 Euros and flight ticket to London of the said Bobby Albert, which representation you knew to be false".
In view of the plea of the defendant, prosecution counsel, Kayode Oni asked for a trial date and prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody. The defence counsel, Maureen Morka informed the court of her application for bail dated September 9, 2014 and prayed the court to grant the defendant bail.
Justice Ikponmwen granted the defendant bail in the sum of One Million Naira and two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be resident in Benin City and must be gainfully employed in Edo State. The defendant must also produce his student identity card.
Justice Ikponmwen subsequently adjourned the case to November 21, 2014 for hearing and ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail.

300lvl Uniben student killed at 1000lt
Remember my earlier report about the Friday shooting. I have clearer details now.
A 300 level student of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Physical Sciences at the University of Benin in Edo state, Ejiroghene Gbenidio (pictured above) was shot dead by unknown gunmen inside the Ugbowo campus of the school on Friday October 24th.
According to reports, Ejiro was attending the jeans carnival of the final year students of his faculty when he was accosted and shot in the head. He died instantly.
His body has been deposited at the Benin Teaching Hospital morgue. The matter is now being handled by the police at the Ugbowo Police station.

His body has been deposited at the Benin Teaching Hospital morgue. The matter is now being handled by the police at the Ugbowo Police station.
Some students say they suspect it might have been as a result of a fallout between rival cult groups.
