This is old gist but I just had to post this because ... well...
Angry reactions has trailed the sacking of 15 senior academic and non-academic staff, including a professor by the authorities of UNIBEN over alleged misconduct and extortion.
However, those affected are claiming that their sack was a violation of extant regulations governing the University and which run contrary to the findings and recommendations of a panel of inquiry which investigated them.
The decision of the University was contained in a memorandum dated July 15, 2013. According to the Head of Public Affairs of the University, Mr Harrison Osariemen, the action was not made by the Vice Chancellor alone, but by the Governing council which is the highest decision-making body in the institution.
However, the action is already generating tension among staff of the institution. This was just as they accuse the Vice-Chancellor Professor Osayuki Oshodin of "having skewed Council's action so as to get rid of staff opposed to his style of leadership".
It was gathered that besides the Professor, five doctorate degree holders and 9 others from various units and departments who were recently sacked by the decision of council, lost their appeals for a reversal of their fate as the Council at an emergency meeting, decided there was no new evidence to do so.
In this group are senior academic staff like Professor Anselm Igbafe, Dr Anthony Ijewere, Dr Mrs.Akortha, Dr Stephen Unyimadu, Dr Ophori, Dr Mrs. Messrs Emmanuel Okon and Y.K. Adebayo Stella Odjimogho, while the senior non-academic staff include Mrs. May Nwoye, BarristerFolarinDimowo, Mr.Kehinde Samuel and Messrs. S. Omokheyeke, Daniel Agbonze, JohnbullOsayamen, Richard Okokobioko and OsaigbovoAmaize-Amenze.
