According to gist flying around, claims have being made that on Sunday, 1st of June, NTA news Benin announced that the 'D' in Pharm D has being removed i.e Doctor of Pharmacy. NUC has discredited Pharmacy and an official letter has already been sent to UNIBEN. This therefore means that pharmacy in the University of Benin will no longer be a doctorate degree course. It should be noted that Uniben is the only Nigerian University that used to offer pharmacy as a 6yr doctorate degree course and it is probably the biggest achievement of the Faculty of Pharmacy in the University of Benin. At this point, Pharmacy will now be a 5yr Bsc programme in the Uniben. The students who have long graduated since 2008 with the Pharm D certificate can no longer make use of it in Nigeria. It is widely believed that Medical association is responsible for this sad development.
